Sasaram: A teacher was kidnapped in Sasaram, Bihar, on Friday evening while he was returning home from school. The victim, Dilip Kumar Singh, teaches physical education at Madhya Vidyalaya Kapsiyan. He was on his way to his native village Rupibandh when armed men intercepted him near the wasteland between Indore and Laheri villages.
Police said that Singh managed to call his wife and told her that the kidnappers were demanding Rs 5 lakh. During the call, one of the criminals snatched the phone and threatened her to arrange the money quickly. Soon after, his phone was switched off and could not be reached again.
The teacher’s family immediately informed the police. Senior officers, including SP Roshan Kumar and SDPO Kumar Vaibhav, visited the village and assured the family that steps were being taken to rescue him. Singh’s motorbike was later found abandoned on the Sasaram–Chausa road near Balthari village.
An FIR has been lodged by Singh’s elder brother against unknown persons. Police said raids are being carried out at several places to catch the criminals and ensure the teacher’s safe return.
