Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav has criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over its Bihar bandh, calling the protest a failure and accusing party leaders of “hooliganism”.
The bandh was organised by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in response to alleged abuse of the prime minister’s mother. But Yadav, the leader of the opposition in the Bihar assembly, claimed the BJP was unable to shut down even “a single ward”, let alone entire villages or panchayats.
In a social media post on Friday, the former deputy chief minister alleged BJP workers assaulted women and teachers, obstructed schoolchildren, harassed the elderly, stopped ambulances and even mistreated relatives of martyrs. “The world’s largest party BJP did hooliganism all over Bihar yesterday … but still these people could not close even a single ward,” he wrote.
Taking aim at PM Narendra Modi, Yadav suggested the BJP should have “hired people” to enforce the bandh in the same way he claims crowds are brought to the prime minister’s rallies. He also accused the administration of bending to pressure during Modi’s visits and said police could have been similarly directed to disrupt traffic in support of the bandh.
“Modi, who hails from Gujarat, took the fun decision of harassing common Biharis in Bihar bandh for vote farming,” Yadav added.
