Patna: Bihar’s political climate has intensified following the resignation of Nitish Kumar from his legislative council post, with opposition leaders launching sharp attacks on the ruling alliance.
Tejashwi Yadav, leader of the opposition in the Bihar assembly, alleged that the decision was taken under pressure from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing its leaders of betraying both Nitish Kumar and the public.
“We have been saying from the beginning that Nitish Kumar will not remain chief minister after the elections,” Tejashwi Yadav said. “He was made chief minister for only two to three months and is now being removed. BJP members have not only cheated him but also the people.”
Tejashwi Yadav also criticised the government over unfulfilled promises, pointing to rising electricity costs in the state. He said Bihar already had some of the highest power tariffs in the country, which increased further after the elections.
He further accused the ruling alliance of misleading voters with financial promises to women, including a pledge of Rs 2 lakh, questioning when such commitments would be fulfilled. “These people have also cheated the women of Bihar,” he said.
The opposition leader also warned of potential increases in fuel prices, linking them to electoral cycles, and raised concerns over law and order in the state. He alleged that people were struggling to access justice and that the BJP was attempting to consolidate control across institutions.
In a separate remark, Tejashwi Yadav criticised Ashok Choudhary over a viral video showing him in tears, dismissing it as “drama” and accusing him of putting on a performance.
Speculation continues over Bihar’s next chief minister, though no official announcement has been made. When asked about the possibility of Nishant Kumar entering politics, Tejashwi Yadav declined to comment directly but said he would welcome any new entrant into public life.
