Patna: Two days before the Bihar Assembly session begins on 1 December, the Mahagathbandhan on Friday unanimously elected Tejashwi Yadav as the coalition’s legislative party leader following a three-hour strategy meeting at his official residence on Polo Road.
The closed-door meeting, chaired by Tejashwi, brought together MLAs from the RJD, Congress and Left parties, signalling renewed unity in the opposition camp despite electoral setbacks. Legislators said the coalition will now focus on delivering a “constructive opposition” that challenges the government “from the House to the streets”.
‘We will play the role of a constructive opposition’
Congress MLC Sameer Kumar Singh said the meeting was centred on preparations for the upcoming session and the alliance’s future strategy.
“Bihar’s mandate must be respected. We will play the role of a constructive opposition. Tejashwi ji asked all MLAs not to be disheartened by the election results,” he said.
Singh added that the alliance will campaign across the state to highlight “electoral irregularities”, alleging widespread manipulation during the 2025 polls.
Opposition vows to confront ‘wrong policies’
RJD state president Mangani Lal Mandal said the entire opposition bloc stands firmly behind Tejashwi.
“All MLAs of the Mahagathbandhan have declared Tejashwi Yadav their leader in both the Assembly and Legislative Council. We will oppose every wrong policy of the government in the House and on the streets,” he said.
Mandal reiterated the coalition’s charge that the 2025 election involved “vote theft and manipulation”, adding that the opposition will take this message to the public.
Speculation on Congress rebellion dismissed
Responding to claims that some Congress MLAs were absent from the meeting or in touch with rival parties, Mandal dismissed the reports as “entirely fabricated”.
“There has been no official statement about Congress contesting alone. All MLAs are united. The Mahagathbandhan is intact,” he said.
