Muzaffarpur/Patna: The Tirhut administration has directed a comprehensive fire safety audit of all private hospitals, clinics and nursing homes operating across the division following the fire at the ICU of Prasad Hospital in Brahmpura, in which six patients died.
Divisional Commissioner Girivar Dayal Singh issued the directive to district magistrates across the division, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Muzaffarpur, and superintendents of police (SPs) in all districts under Tirhut division.
Safety standards to be reviewed
According to an official communication issued by the Commissioner’s office, authorities have been instructed to conduct detailed inspections of fire safety arrangements and other mandatory safety standards in private healthcare facilities.
The audit will assess whether hospitals have adequate measures in place to respond to emergencies and comply with prescribed safety norms.
Building approvals and emergency access under scrutiny
The administration said the audit will extend beyond fire safety systems.
Officials will examine whether hospitals have proper entry and exit routes for emergency situations. The legality of building construction and compliance with approved building plans will also be reviewed as part of the exercise.
Report deadline set for June 15
The Commissioner has directed concerned officials to complete the audit on priority and submit a detailed report to the divisional headquarters by June 15.
The administration said the exercise aims to prevent a recurrence of incidents similar to the fire at Prasad Hospital.
Action against non-compliant institutions
Authorities have warned that healthcare facilities found violating prescribed standards may face regulatory action.
According to the directive, measures could include sealing of premises and cancellation of licences in cases of serious non-compliance.
