Patna: A 15-member team of engineers from Tripura’s Public Works Department (Drinking Water and Sanitation) has completed a two-day exposure visit to Patna to study the city’s sanitation and waste management systems. The visit, held on February 18 and 19, was coordinated by the Bihar Institute of Public Administration and Rural Development and aimed at understanding how the Bihar capital has implemented its urban cleanliness initiatives.
The delegation conducted an in-depth review of projects run by the Patna Municipal Corporation, focusing on plastic waste management, faecal sludge management and solid and liquid waste systems developed under the ODF Plus framework. Officials said the tour was designed to familiarise participants with operational models, monitoring mechanisms and innovations adopted to improve sanitation outcomes in the city.
The programme began with a detailed presentation at the municipal corporation’s headquarters, where department officials outlined project designs, technical components and systems of oversight. Particular emphasis was placed on community engagement models and public awareness efforts, which authorities described as central to sustaining cleanliness gains.
Engineers later undertook field visits to key infrastructure sites, including the Beur Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), the Integrated Command and Control Centre at the civic control room, and the riverfront development along Ganga Path. At each location, the team interacted with on-site officials to understand implementation challenges and replicable practices.
The visit forms part of broader inter-state knowledge exchanges aimed at strengthening urban sanitation systems. Officials indicated that insights gathered in Patna could inform future sanitation and drinking water initiatives in Tripura, particularly in scaling up structured waste management frameworks and improving community participation.
