Patna: Vaibhav Suryavanshi is poised to create havoc in the second match of the Under-19 ODI series against England after his explosive performance in the opener. In the first game, India secured victory by six wickets, leading the five-match series 1-0.
All eyes will be on Vaibhav today as he opens with captain Ayush Mhatre at the County Ground in Hove. In the previous match, Vaibhav hammered 48 runs from just 19 balls, including five sixes and three fours, at a remarkable strike rate of 252.63. He narrowly missed a half-century by two runs but made his presence felt by hitting three sixes in a single over. Vaibhav also bowled one over, conceding only two runs.
The 14-year-old from Bihar has already made headlines with his record-breaking IPL debut for Rajasthan Royals earlier this year. Vaibhav became the youngest player to score a half-century and a century in IPL history. He reached his fifty with a four and his century with a six against Gujarat Titans, finishing his innings in just 35 balls with 11 sixes and seven fours. This was the fastest century by an Indian in IPL, surpassing Yusuf Pathan’s 37-ball century in 2010 and placing him second overall after Chris Gayle’s 30-ball hundred.
Vaibhav made his IPL debut at the age of 14 years and 23 days against Lucknow Super Giants, hitting a six off the very first ball faced from Shardul Thakur. He scored 34 runs off 20 balls before being stumped by Aiden Markram in the ninth over. Rajasthan Royals sent him in as an impact player to open, and his fearless approach earned him the Super Striker of the Season award for his strike rate of 206.55, along with a Tata Motors Curve EV.
