Patna: Wives and daughters of martyred soldiers and ex-servicemen will soon stitch the uniforms of children studying in army schools, as part of a major empowerment initiative launched in Bihar. The Directorate of Sainik Welfare, in collaboration with the State Bank of India and Nav Astitva Foundation, has started a ten-day training camp in Patna to equip these Veeranganas with sewing skills.
The training, inaugurated by Brigadier KD Jaspal of Bihar Regiment Centre on Tuesday at Albert Ekka Bhawan, aims to make the women self-reliant. Following the camp, they will receive automatic sewing machines and tool kits from the State Bank of India to start their work.
Brigadier Jaspal said the initiative will economically empower Veeranganas, as the army will provide them with markets for their products. “The Indian Army runs hundreds of schools across the country. The order for school uniforms will be given to these Veeranganas,” he said, adding that similar training camps will be organised in other districts.
The programme is being implemented with training support from Nav Astitva Foundation. Officials present at the inauguration included BK Bangarraju, Chief General Manager of State Bank of India Bihar-Jharkhand, Brigadier Mrigendra Kumar, Director of Sainik Welfare Directorate, Assistant Director Colonel Santosh Kumar Tripathi, District Sainik Welfare Officer Colonel Manoj Kumar, and several ex-servicemen.
