Patna: Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP government during a public meeting in Patna, invoking a slogan that has gained nationwide attention.
“People in China and America are also saying, ‘vote Chor gaddi chhod,’” Gandhi said, referring to the anti-BJP chant that originated in Bihar. “This slogan is not limited to Bihar or India only. People have now understood the policies of BJP and the politics of stealing mandate.”
Gandhi accused the ruling party of undermining democracy and curbing citizens’ rights, describing vote theft not merely as a means to seize power, but as a theft of democracy itself. He urged the public to support efforts to counter what he described as the BJP’s attempts to erode democratic processes.
RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, speaking at the same event, described the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ as a historic movement. “The whole of Patna is witness to this yatra today. The common people have fully awakened. Now the public will oust these dishonest people from power and give a befitting reply to those who killed democracy,” he said.
The rally drew a large crowd, reflecting the enthusiasm for the Grand Alliance’s campaign. Both leaders asserted that the movement, which began in Bihar, was resonating across India and expressed confidence that citizens would take decisive steps to defend democracy and their rights. The public meeting marked the conclusion of the Voter Adhikar Yatra.
