Purnea: A shocking and deeply disturbing crime has been reported from Bihar’s Purnea district, where a young woman was allegedly kidnapped, held captive and gang-raped by six men on Saturday night. The incident took place in the Dagrua police station area, barely 200 metres away from the police station, highlighting serious concerns about women’s safety. The survivor was eventually rescued after she managed to call the emergency helpline number 112, using the mobile phone of one of the accused to seek help from the police.
According to the woman’s statement, she was forcibly abducted around 7pm from near Newalal Chowk in Purnea. She said she was taken in a car to Dagrua, where she was confined inside a locked house. The victim told police that she was first forced to dance and was later beaten and sexually assaulted by six men. She said the abuse continued for several hours, leaving her physically injured and mentally traumatised.
The survivor further stated that after the assault, five of the accused went outside and locked the room from the outside, while one man stayed inside with her. Fearing for her life, she found an opportunity to call the emergency helpline from one of the accused’s phones. Acting swiftly on the call, a police team led by sub-divisional police officer Jitendra Pandey and station house officer Rajesh Kumar rushed to the location. The house was found locked from the outside, and when police opened it, they found the victim inside along with one of the accused.
The man arrested at the spot was identified as Junaid Alam, a resident of the area and the husband of the deputy head of Dagrua village. Police said he is the son of Hafizuddin, who lives in Ward Number 7 under the Dagrua police station area. The victim was safely rescued and immediately sent for a medical examination. Based on her statement, an FIR has been registered against six people under serious charges, including gang rape and assault.
Police said five of the accused are currently absconding and efforts are being made to arrest them. Raids are being conducted at possible hideouts, and officials have assured that no one involved will be spared. “The case is being investigated with full seriousness,” SDPO Jitendra Pandey said. The incident has once again drawn attention to the issue of violence against women and the urgent need for stronger safety measures and swift justice.
