Darbhanga: Youth Set on Fire While Making Reels During Holi Celebrations

Darbhanga: In a shocking incident, a 21-year-old youth was set on fire after petrol was poured on him while making social media reels during Holi celebrations in Banauli village, Simri police station area. The victim, identified as Prince Kumar, sustained burn injuries in the incident.
According to the injured youth, he was on his way to a local chowk to buy gulal from his house around 3 PM on Friday when the incident occurred. At the square, 30-40 boys were dancing to DJ music while also engaging in a dangerous act of sprinkling petrol and setting it on fire.
Prince alleged that Ritesh Kumar, son of Ramdayal Mahato, deliberately poured petrol on him and ignited the fire. Villagers rushed to his aid and managed to douse the flames. He was given primary treatment at the village medical center before being shifted to PHC Singhwada for further care.
Following the incident, Simri police station in-charge Manish Kumar recorded the victim’s statement and inspected the scene. However, the police have not yet received any formal complaint regarding the matter.
“The victim was also dancing with other boys during Holi celebrations. Petrol was being used to create fire effects for social media reels. When a petrol bottle was opened, some fuel splashed on him, causing him to catch fire. It does not appear to be an intentional act,” said Manish Kumar, adding that the investigation is ongoing.
