Bihar CM Nitish Kumar to Decide Son Nishant’s Political Future, Says Minister

Patna: Bihar minister and close confidant of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, said that the decision on Nitish’s son, Nishant Kumar’s political entry rests entirely with the chief minister. Speculation over Nishant’s political debut gained momentum after his appearance at a Holi Milan programme in Patna on Saturday.
“The decision of Nishant entering politics or not is up to Nitish Kumar. The party has left this entirely to him. Since he has built this party, he will decide its political future,” Chaudhary told reporters on Sunday.
Nishant Kumar, the only son of CM Nitish, has largely stayed away from public life and political affairs. Unlike many other political heirs in Bihar, he has remained a private figure, fueling speculation whenever he makes a public appearance. His public appearances and statements have relatively increased ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections later this year.
Chaudhary’s remarks come amid growing curiosity about Nitish’s succession plan, especially as the JD(U) chief has been at the center of Bihar’s political realignments over the years. However, the chief minister has so far given no indication of grooming Nishant for a political role.
While other regional parties in Bihar, including the RJD and LJP, have seen family members take on leadership roles, JD(U) has largely remained an exception. CM Nitish has repeatedly distanced himself from dynastic politics, a stance that makes Nishant’s potential entry into public life even more uncertain.
For now, the JD(U) leadership maintains that the chief minister alone will determine the future course of the party, leaving questions over Nishant’s political ambitions unanswered.
