Former Karnataka DGP From Bihar, Om Prakash, Found Stabbed to Death in Bengaluru; Wife Held

Bengaluru/Patna: A wave of shock gripped Bengaluru’s upscale HSR Layout on Sunday after former Karnataka Director General of Police (DGP) Om Prakash, a native of Bihar’s West Champaran district, was found dead under suspicious circumstances at his residence. Initial investigations suggest that the 1981-batch IPS officer was stabbed to death, with the police detaining his wife, Pallavi, for questioning in connection with the case.

According to police sources, tensions had been simmering between the couple for several months. Neighbours corroborated reports of frequent arguments, with one particularly heated confrontation occurring just days before the incident. Officials suspect that the ongoing domestic discord may have played a role in the alleged crime, with a focus now on determining whether mental distress contributed to Pallavi’s actions.

The Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) team examined the house thoroughly and recovered a blood-stained knife believed to be the weapon used in the killing. Investigators are exploring domestic violence as a possible motive and are also reviewing CCTV footage, mobile phone data, and call records to piece together the events that led to the former police chief’s death.

Om Prakash, hailing from Piprasi village in West Champaran district in Bihar, began his career as an Assistant Superintendent of Police in Harapanahalli and later served as Superintendent in several districts across Karnataka. Widely respected for his strict discipline and empathetic leadership, he rose through the ranks to become the DGP of Karnataka.

He is survived by two sons who currently live abroad and are expected to arrive in India soon. The HSR Layout police have assured that all leads are being pursued rigorously to ensure justice in what is being treated as a high-profile homicide case.
