Sword Attack Inside Home as Muharram Procession Clash Turns Violent in Bihar

Two groups clashed during a Muharram procession in Muzaffarpur, leading to sword attacks and a violent home invasion that left many injured

Muzaffarpur: There was chaos during the Muharram procession in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar on Saturday when two groups clashed violently. The incident took place in Ganj Gaurihar village under Bariyarpur police station. Many people from both sides were injured, including the brother of the village head of Gaurihar Khaliknagar Panchayat.

The clash started when a dispute broke out involving the son of the village head, Sanjay Sah. He said his son was hurt during the procession, which led to an argument. Although the matter was settled at that time, when the procession returned to the village, a group attacked their house. Family members including his brother, son, wife, and sister-in-law were beaten up inside their home. His brother was injured in a sword attack.

Those injured in the attack, Dinesh Sah and Jitendra Sah, were taken to Sakra Referral Hospital for treatment. Police have detained six people so far, including one group leader and four members from the other side. Senior police officials and district administration officers reached the spot and appealed for peace between both groups.

In another incident in Dariya Chhapra Pathak Tola village on Friday night, a dispute broke out over planting a flag on a door. Police said youths planted a flag which led to objections and threats. SHO Rajan Kumar Pandey said both groups have been told to maintain peace. Police are camping in Ganj Gaurihar village and checking CCTV footage to identify everyone involved in the Muharram violence.
