Bagaha: In Bagaha district, a tiger attacked and killed 55-year-old farmer Mathura Mahato while he was working in his field. His body was later found a short distance away, partially eaten, suggesting the animal may be turning into a man-eater. Villagers said they had earlier noticed the tiger’s movements but no action was taken.
When forest department staff arrived after being alerted, the tiger attacked again, injuring one worker who has been hospitalised. Authorities have stepped up patrols, deployed a tracking team and set cages to capture the animal, believed to have wandered from Valmiki Tiger Reserve into the populated area. Residents have been advised to stay indoors and immediately report any sightings.
