Patna: The admission process for medical colleges in Bihar under NEET-UG 2025 has slowed down, leaving thousands of students waiting for clarity on their future. While the first round of admissions on 15% of seats under the All India Quota has been completed, enrolments on the remaining 85% state quota seats are yet to begin.
According to officials at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), the first round of admissions under the central quota was completed by August 23, covering students with All India ranks between 130 and 3,000. PMCH, which has 180 MBBS seats, allocated 27 of them through the All India Quota in this round.
“The second round of the All India Quota will be announced soon. Only after that will the state quota counselling proceed, most likely in September,” said Rakesh Chaudhary, head of orthopaedics at PMCH. He added that state quota admissions are crucial as they make up the majority of medical seats in Bihar.
Bihar has a total of 2,995 MBBS seats, with 1,645 in government medical colleges and 1,350 in private institutions. Of these, around 450 are reserved for the All India Quota while 2,545 are allotted through the state counselling process conducted by the Bihar Combined Entrance Board.
This year, the first round of state counselling results was declared on August 24, with document verification scheduled between August 26 and 28. However, formal admissions have yet to begin, creating restlessness among candidates.
PMCH continues to be the top choice for students, followed by Nalanda Medical College, Darbhanga Medical College, and Sri Krishna Medical College in Muzaffarpur.
