Munger: Chief minister Nitish Kumar has given a special gift to the people of Munger. The state government has started building wedding halls so that poor families do not have to worry about arranging expensive places for their daughters’ marriages. The foundation stone for a new hall was laid in Matadih Panchayat of Dharhara block, and many villagers joined the event through a virtual meeting with the chief minister.
For parents in poor families, weddings are often very stressful because they cannot afford hotels or marriage halls. During the programme, Komal Devi of Matadih village became emotional and said, “Sir, I don’t have the means to book a hall for my daughter’s wedding. What you have done will bring great joy to poor parents.” Another villager, Sulochana Devi, could hardly believe it and asked her local leader if wedding halls were really being built in every village.
Local people said this step will reduce the big expenses that poor families face. In villages like Matadih, which are seen as disadvantaged areas, families had no option but to spend a lot of money on arranging weddings. Now, with government-built halls, parents will be able to organise weddings for their daughters in their own villages with dignity and less financial pressure.
On Friday, Panchayat head Sandhya Devi said that the government is working for all sections of society. “Earlier poor families could not even think of booking a hotel or hall. But now they will have a building ready for the weddings of their daughters,” she said. Her representative, Ranjeet Yadav, added that after years of waiting, parents will now be able to conduct marriages without leaving their villages.
Deputy chief of Dharhara, Neeraj Yadav, called this decision a big gift from the government, saying it will benefit everyone, not just the poorest households. Many local officials, panchayat members, and villagers attended the ceremony and expressed their happiness, calling the move a welcome relief for families who struggle to meet wedding costs.
