Muzaffarpur: A disturbing and heartbreaking incident has emerged from Muzaffarpur, Bihar, where locals spotted a dog dragging the body of a newborn near the Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH), the largest government hospital in north Bihar.
Residents in the area were horrified after seeing the dog carrying the infant’s remains along the roadside, triggering panic and widespread anger.
Body recovered, police begin probe
Police reached the spot soon after receiving information and took custody of the body, sending it for postmortem at SKMCH.
Locals claim the dog dragged the body from the hospital side, eventually heading towards bushes near Gate No. 3, where it began tearing the remains.
One of the witnesses, Priyanka Kumari, described the scene:
“We were passing by and saw the body of a very small baby. There was blood and flies all around. A dog had dragged it here and eaten parts of it. We covered it with a sack,” she said.
CCTV footage becomes key evidence
The entire sequence was captured in nearby CCTV cameras, which investigators are now reviewing. Residents say this is not the first such incident in the SKMCH zone, where multiple cases of newborn or foetus dumping have been reported over the past two years.
Despite repeated cases, locals allege that only superficial action has been taken by authorities and the district health committee.
Police: ‘Strict action will be taken’
SDPO Town-2 Vinita Sinha confirmed that an inquiry has been initiated.
“A foetus was found in Shahbazpur under Ahiyapur. The body has been sent for postmortem. CCTV footage from the area is being examined, and strict action will be taken against those responsible,” she said.
