Patna: Samrat Chaudhary was sworn in as minister on Thursday, poised to become deputy CM for the second consecutive term. He took oath alongside chief minister Nitish Kumar at a high-profile ceremony held at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan, attended by thousands and marked by a strong show of strength from the National Democratic Alliance.
Chaudhary’s return to the post is being seen as a significant political signal. The BJP’s decision to elevate him again reflects the party’s intent to highlight leaders with organisational heft and an aggressive political style, particularly at a time when it seeks to consolidate its position in the state. His appointment also underscores his growing stature within the NDA, following a tenure as BJP state president in which he strengthened the party’s cadre down to the booth level.

In recent years, Samrat has emerged as a central figure in BJP Bihar’s political landscape. His sharp criticism of the opposition and his high-decibel campaign style made him a key face of the BJP during the assembly elections.
The swearing-in ceremony itself was a display of political unity and confidence, with Nitish Kumar, both deputy chief ministers, senior BJP and JD(U) leaders, and representatives from the central leadership sharing the stage.
Speaking to reporters before the ceremony, Samrat said he remained committed to steering Bihar toward “a new era of development” through coordinated efforts between the central and state governments. He listed law and order, employment, education and infrastructure as his top priorities.
