Patna: The Nitish government has taken a big and historic step by promoting 855 officers of the Bihar Secretariat Service. This decision was confirmed on Saturday when the General Administration Department issued an official notification. The promotions came into effect immediately, which means the officers will now start working in their new posts without delay.
According to the notification, several ranks have been upgraded. Thirty-one Deputy Secretaries have now become Joint Secretaries. Seventy-nine Under Secretaries have been promoted to Deputy Secretaries. Two hundred and twenty-six Branch Officers have been promoted to Under Secretaries. In addition, 519 Assistant Branch Officers have been promoted to Branch Officers. This massive promotion is being seen as a result of the continuous efforts of the Bihar Secretariat Service Association, whose members met Chief Minister Nitish Kumar many times and requested these promotions.
After the announcement, the association thanked Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the Chief Secretary, and the Additional Chief Secretary of the General Administration Department. Union President Adarsh Vaibhav, General Secretary Rana Ranjit Kumar, and other leaders including Varun Pandey and Sanjeev Tiwari said that the officers who have been promoted will now work on government projects with even more energy and dedication. They added that the decision has motivated employees across the entire Secretariat.
The association said that for many years promotions in the Bihar Secretariat Service were very limited, and officers had to wait for a long time. But when the Chief Minister increased the number of posts in October 2025, it created the opportunity for more promotions. As a result, 855 officers have now received their new positions. There is a sense of celebration and excitement among the staff, as many officers have been waiting for this moment for a long time.
