Patna: Patna Police, in a joint operation with the Special Task Force (STF), have foiled a major robbery attempt in the city’s Kankarbagh and Ramakrishna Nagar areas, arresting four members of a gang that had allegedly planned the heist under the direction of a jailed criminal.
According to officials, the gang had recently conducted a detailed recce of a prominent jewellery shop in Kankarbagh and was preparing to carry out the robbery within one to two days. The swift intervention by police prevented what could have been a major incident.
Robbery Plot Linked to Beur Jail
Investigations indicate that the conspiracy was being coordinated from inside Beur Jail, where a notorious criminal is believed to have directed operations. Police are now trying to determine which of the arrested men had visited the inmate.
A search was also conducted in the inmate’s ward on Friday as part of the probe.
The gang had also planned robberies in Bokaro, Jharkhand, suggesting a wider network. Patna Police have already alerted their counterparts in Jharkhand.
Four Arrested, Semi-Automatic Pistol Seized
Patna SSP Kartikeya Sharma said police acted on intelligence that six criminals had gathered at the residence of Gyan Shankar Tiwari on East Indira Road No. 3 to discuss the robbery.
During the raid:

Two men were first apprehended.

Based on information provided by accused Rahul Singha, police recovered a semi-automatic pistol and 12 live cartridges.

Further interrogation led to the arrest of two more associates preparing to target a home in Jagaranpura, Ramakrishna Nagar.
The arrested individuals have been identified as:
Rahul Singha, Mantu Kumar, Ajay Kumar Pandey, and Amit Kumar.
Police believe the group is part of a broader criminal network with links to Uttar Pradesh.
Gang May Be Connected to 2022 Patna Jewellery Heist
Investigators are examining whether the suspects have ties to a 2022 daylight robbery in Gardanibagh, where criminals looted gold jewellery worth crores from a gold-loan-backed jewellery outlet.
The mastermind in that case remains at large.
