Patna: The Bihar government has announced the formation of a new industrial security force, the BISF, designed on the lines of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), to strengthen safety across the state’s industrial zones. Officials say the move aims to reassure investors, improve emergency response, and support expanding industrial activity. A proposal will soon be placed before the cabinet for approval, industry minister Dr Dilip Jaiswal said on Sunday.
Under the plan, the BISF will serve as a dedicated unit for guarding industrial facilities. Personnel will be drawn from the Bihar Police and trained on a model similar to the CISF. The force will be headed by an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, with DSP-level officials and other supervisory staff forming part of the command structure. Its headquarters will be located within an industrial area.
Officials say the BISF’s services will be available both to new investors entering the state and to existing industrial units. The force will be responsible for protecting factory premises as well as ensuring security across broader industrial clusters, which the government is developing to attract fresh investment.
Industrialists have long called for a specialised security mechanism, arguing that private arrangements currently used by most units are insufficient. The creation of the BISF, they say, would provide an institutional security framework that the sector has been demanding for years.
