Patna: Preparations for Census 2027 have accelerated across the district, with officials stepping up administrative arrangements and training programmes ahead of the nationwide exercise. Authorities said the upcoming census will be conducted largely through digital platforms, marking a significant shift in how population data is collected and managed.
As part of the preparations, a three-day training programme will be held at the collectorate conference hall from March 16 to March 18. Charge officers and district-level personnel will take part in the sessions, where they will be briefed on the operational aspects of the first stage of the census. The initial phase will focus on house listing and housing enumeration, an essential step in preparing for the full population count.
According to District Statistical Officer Indrajit Kumar, two master trainers from the district have already completed specialised training in Patna and will now train local officials. The trainers will provide guidance on the technical and procedural aspects of the census, including how digital data will be collected, processed and verified during the enumeration process.
The census will be carried out in two phases. The first phase, covering house listing and housing census, is scheduled from May 2 to May 31. The second phase, which involves the actual population enumeration, will take place next year from February 9 to February 28, during which enumerators will visit households to collect demographic information.
In a new initiative aimed at improving efficiency and participation, citizens will also have the option of self-enumeration. Between April 17 and May 1, residents can log on to the official portal using a mobile number or Aadhaar details and enter information about themselves and their families.
The online form will require responses to 33 questions, including details about family members, type of housing and socio-economic conditions. After submitting the form, users will receive a unique identification number (UID), which must be shown to the enumerator during the verification visit. Once the information is verified, the census record will be considered complete.
