Patna: Senior officials from power utilities across eastern India attended the 56th Technical Coordination Committee (TCC) meeting of the Eastern Regional Power Committee (ERPC), held in Gangtok, Sikkim.
Representatives from Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Sikkim and other states participated in discussions on grid operations, system management and ongoing reforms in the energy sector.
Key Focus Areas in Agenda
The supplementary agenda included issues related to grid frequency management, integration of renewable energy sources, SCADA upgradation, captive power data collection and reactive energy accounting between India and Bhutan.
Officials also discussed measures to strengthen grid stability, including reinforcement of Under Frequency Relay (UFR) systems and Automatic Generation Control (AGC) mechanisms.
States were directed to expedite registration on the Captive Power Portal and ensure timely completion of pending infrastructure and operational projects. Stakeholders were also invited to provide inputs for proposed dialogue sessions linked to Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) regulations.
Bihar’s Proposals Receive Appreciation
During the meeting, Bihar’s agenda submissions were appreciated by the regional coordination group. The proposals included points related to grid frequency management, improved data collection systems and certification of DVC’s 400 kV STU transmission lines as “Non-ISTS lines carrying ISTS power.”
Officials noted that these suggestions aligned with broader efforts to improve transparency and efficiency in regional power system operations.
Participation From Key Power Sector Officials
The meeting saw participation from senior representatives of multiple institutions, including Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, Bihar State Power Transmission Company Limited, Odisha Hydro Power Corporation, West Bengal State Electricity Transmission Company Limited, Jharkhand Urja Vikas Nigam Limited, Damodar Valley Corporation and Sikkim power authorities.
Among those present were BSPTCL Director (Operations) Awadhesh Kumar Singh, ERPC Member Secretary K B Jagtap, PGCIL Executive Director A K Naik, and other senior officials from participating states and agencies.
Regional Coordination Emphasised
Officials underlined the importance of coordinated action among eastern regional utilities to ensure stable grid performance amid rising renewable energy integration and increasing demand.
The meeting concluded with a consensus on strengthening technical collaboration and improving compliance mechanisms across participating states.
