Patna: Bihar’s Urban Development & Housing and Information Technology Minister, Nitish Mishra, on Friday assumed charge as Acting Chairman of the Lalit Narayan Mishra Institute of Economic Development and Social Change (LNMI) in Patna.
The minister was welcomed at the institute by Director Dr N. Vijayalakshmi and Professor Dr Chandra Singh, who presented him with a bouquet and a traditional angavastra. Faculty members, officials and staff also extended their greetings on the occasion.

After assuming office, Mishra expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the institute in an acting capacity.
Describing the appointment as both an honour and a responsibility, he said he would work with commitment and dedication to further strengthen the institution.
Emphasises Personal Connection With LNMI
Speaking at the programme, Mishra highlighted his long-standing association with LNMI and recalled the role played by his father in the establishment and development of the institute.
He said the institution occupies a special place in his life and pledged full support for preserving and advancing its legacy.
Mishra noted that LNMI has contributed significantly to Bihar’s economic and social development through research, academic excellence and policy-oriented studies.
Focus On Entrepreneurship And Skill Development
Outlining his vision for the institute, Mishra said greater emphasis would be placed on preparing students to become entrepreneurs and job creators rather than solely job seekers.
He stressed the importance of equipping young people with modern skills, technological knowledge and innovative thinking to meet the demands of a rapidly changing economy.
According to him, entrepreneurship, innovation and skill development will be central to efforts aimed at preparing students to contribute to the building of a modern and developed India.
He also assured faculty members and students of his support in enhancing the quality of education, research and institutional development.
World Environment Day Observed On Campus
Marking World Environment Day, Mishra planted a sapling on the institute’s campus and urged people to view environmental protection as a long-term responsibility rather than a symbolic annual observance.
He said safeguarding the environment was essential for ensuring a secure future for coming generations and called for greater public participation in conservation efforts.
Institute officials expressed confidence that under Mishra’s leadership, LNMI would continue to expand its academic and research profile and further strengthen its position as a leading centre for economic and social studies.
They said the institution hopes to achieve new milestones in education, research and social transformation while enhancing its national standing in the years ahead.
