Rajgir/Patna: The state environment, forest and climate change department is planning to develop an eco-resort in the forested landscape of Rajgir as part of efforts to expand tourism infrastructure in the region.
Officials said a suitable site has been identified and preparations are under way to issue tenders for construction.
The proposed resort will be the first tourism facility of its kind to be developed and operated by the environment, forest and climate change department in Bihar.
Project aimed at expanding tourism facilities
The department said the resort is intended to address the growing demand for accommodation in Rajgir, one of Bihar’s busiest tourist destinations.
The facility is expected to accommodate around 200 tourists at a time. Provision will also be made for 37 staff members responsible for operations and maintenance.
Rajgir attracts large numbers of domestic and international visitors each year due to attractions such as the Vishwa Shanti Stupa, Nature Safari, Zoo Safari, hot springs and sites linked to Buddhism and Jainism.
Design inspired by rainforest eco-cottages
According to officials, the resort’s design will draw inspiration from eco-cottages developed in rainforest regions such as the Amazon.
The plan includes single-storey cottages designed to blend into the natural surroundings while providing modern amenities.
Authorities said environmental norms will be followed during construction to minimise any impact on the surrounding forest and biodiversity.
Accommodation and facilities
The resort is proposed to have 96 rooms across multiple categories. These include eight suite rooms, eight first-class rooms, 40 executive rooms and 40 double-bed rooms.
While the interiors will be equipped with modern facilities, the exterior design will retain a natural and traditional aesthetic to preserve the forest experience.
Employment and local impact
Raj Kumar Manmohan, divisional forest officer (DFO), said the project is being developed to improve stay options for tourists visiting Rajgir’s Nature Safari and Zoo Safari.
Officials said the resort is also expected to support local businesses and create employment opportunities in the area by increasing tourist footfall and longer stays.
Tourism experts said the project could strengthen Rajgir’s position as a key destination in Bihar’s tourism sector.
