Patna: The Bihar Olympic Association (BOA), in collaboration with the Department of Sports, Government of Bihar, has announced the Bihar State Games 2026, a multi-sport event that will bring athletes from districts across the state together for competitions in Olympic and recognised sports disciplines.
The Games will begin with a launch ceremony and torch relay on August 16. The grand opening ceremony is scheduled for September 5, while the event will conclude with the closing ceremony on September 12.
Competitions will be held at venues in Patna and Rajgir. The organisers said the event will make use of Bihar’s developing sports infrastructure and provide athletes with a platform to compete at the state level.
First Comprehensive Multi-Sport Event Under BOA
According to the Bihar Olympic Association, the 2026 edition will be the first comprehensive multi-sport event organised under its aegis.
Thousands of athletes representing districts across Bihar are expected to participate in the Games. The organisers said the event is intended to create greater opportunities for athletes to compete, while strengthening the state’s sports ecosystem.
The Games will focus on identifying emerging talent, supporting grassroots sports and encouraging youth participation in competitive sport.
Focus On Developing Sporting Talent
The organisers said the Games are aligned with the Bihar government’s broader objective of developing a stronger sporting ecosystem in the state.
The event is also expected to help identify athletes with the potential to represent Bihar at national competitions and, over time, compete for India at national and international levels.
BOA President Calls Games A Landmark Initiative
Ajay Kumar, president of the Bihar Olympic Association, described the State Games as a major initiative for sports in Bihar.
“The Bihar State Games 2026 is a landmark initiative in the sporting history of our state. It will provide a common platform where talented athletes from every district can showcase their abilities and compete at the highest standards,” Kumar said.
He said the event reflected the association’s commitment to developing sporting talent and a stronger sports culture in Bihar.
Kumar also thanked the Government of Bihar, the Department of Sports and the Bihar State Sports Authority for their support in organising the Games.
The Bihar State Games 2026 will run from August 16 to September 12, with competitions taking place in Patna and Rajgir.
