Patna: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Patna marked the conclusion of Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a community outreach programme held at Ajwan village in Naubatpur block, its field practice area. The initiative, conducted on 31 October, aimed to raise awareness about early detection and prevention of breast cancer among rural women.
Faculty members and resident doctors from the Department of Community and Family Medicine delivered a health talk focusing on identifying early warning signs, understanding risk factors, and the importance of regular screening. A live demonstration on self-breast examination (SBE) encouraged women to monitor their own health and seek timely medical advice.
To make the session more engaging and accessible, interns and postgraduate residents performed a nukkad natak—a traditional street play—to dispel myths and convey key messages about breast cancer awareness. The event drew active participation from women across age groups, reflecting a growing openness to discuss women’s health issues in rural communities.
AIIMS Patna said the event was part of its wider effort to strengthen preventive oncology, community health education, and women’s empowerment.
Globally observed every October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month—often called “Pink October”—is symbolized by the pink ribbon. The campaign focuses on early detection, education, and support for those affected by breast cancer, emphasising that early diagnosis remains the strongest tool to improve survival rates.
