Patna: A political exchange has escalated after Rahul Gandhi described the detention of Youth Congress workers as evidence of authoritarian tendencies, prompting a sharp rebuke from ruling party MP Lalan Singh.
Gandhi shared a post on X criticising the arrests of members of the Indian Youth Congress, framing them as part of what he called a dictatorial pattern. Singh responded publicly, asserting that the opposition leader was incapable of political reform.
“Rahul Gandhi ji, you will never improve. May God bless you,” Singh wrote, before expanding his critique in a statement that accused Gandhi of routinely attacking the prime minister. Singh argued that government policies were aimed at national development and accused the opposition of viewing progress through “wrong glasses”.

He further suggested that protests organised by Youth Congress members during an artificial intelligence summit amounted to disloyalty, saying they had damaged India’s international reputation. Singh demanded an apology, although he acknowledged that one was unlikely.
Gandhi’s original post defended peaceful protest as a democratic right and praised Youth Congress activists for raising concerns about government policy. He argued that a trade agreement with the United States would disadvantage Indian farmers and the textile industry and risk the transfer of sensitive data abroad. The arrests of Youth Congress president Uday Bhanu Chib and others, he claimed, demonstrated authoritarian tendencies.
