Patna: Bihar Government is set to modernise its industrial areas with artificial intelligence (AI) technology. Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit announced that the state will install smart poles and smart shelters equipped with AI cameras in select industrial zones as part of a pilot project. The move is inspired by a similar system implemented in Sabarimala, Kerala, where AI helps manage crowds, improve security, and respond to emergencies quickly. The plan marks a major step towards making Bihar’s industrial infrastructure more organised, safe, and technology-driven.
The smart poles will play a key role in increasing security in industrial zones. They can detect suspicious activity immediately, monitor traffic, control crowds, and provide rapid alerts in case of emergencies. Officials say that this will not only make industrial areas safer but also boost investor confidence by showing that Bihar is serious about modernisation and technology. Prithvi Maddirala, founder of Ayoru Enterprises, who presented the Sabarimala model, said the AI system can handle security and emergency tasks more effectively than human monitoring alone.
In addition to technology, Bihar is focusing on training its youth. Around 10,000 young people will be trained in AI over the next six months, including through college programs, in collaboration with Google India. Chief Secretary Amrit said this initiative is a great opportunity to develop skills and prepare the next generation for a technology-driven economy. He added that AI will be central to Bihar’s administration, education, public service, and industrial planning in the future.
The state government is also exploring ways to use AI to improve public services and citizen welfare. Proposals presented during the industry dialogue included 24/7 access to government information via WhatsApp, improving education and women and child welfare, and strengthening startups and industrial growth. With these steps, Bihar is signalling its ambition to become a smart and innovation-friendly state, moving beyond traditional industries to embrace modern technology for development and governance.
