Patna: The Bihar Government has announced plans to provide free education and accommodation for children from vulnerable communities, ensuring that their schooling will not be interrupted. Preparations for identifying eligible children are underway ahead of the next academic session in April 2026.
The initiative will target children of brick kiln workers, orphans, and other disadvantaged groups. Identified children will be enrolled in nearby primary schools and provided accommodation at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Residential Hostels, which currently operate at T.K. Ghosh Academy and Patna High School, Gardanibagh. Each hostel can house up to 100 children.
According to the District Education Officer, Saket Ranjan, students will receive not only free education but also food, clothing, footwear, soap, blankets, and bedding during winter months. Seasonal fruits will also be supplied.
The scheme aims to support:
- Orphans and children with single parents
- Urban underprivileged children
- Children of parents killed in Naxalite attacks
- Children of brick kiln and mine workers
- Children involved in begging or hotel/garage labor
- Children affected by human trafficking
- Children from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes families below the poverty line
- Migrant children and those orphaned by COVID-19
The District Education Office has already begun identifying children from these categories under instructions from the Bihar Education Project Council. The government’s commitment is intended to ensure that children from marginalized communities continue their education without disruption.
