Patna: Sudden heavy rainfall swept across parts of Bihar on Friday, providing temporary relief from the sweltering heat but also claiming one life. A woman in Chakousan, Vaishali, died after being struck by lightning, authorities confirmed.
The state meteorological department has issued a yellow alert for 13 districts, including Patna, Kishanganj, Nalanda, and Buxar, where intermittent heavy rain is expected over the next two days. Gusts of wind reaching up to 40 km/h and further lightning activity have also been forecast.
While Jamui recorded rainfall in the past 24 hours, Patna saw only partial cloud cover and bright sunshine, and similar conditions persisted in Supaul and Nalanda, exacerbating heat-related discomfort.
Officials attributed the rainfall to a low-pressure system currently active over the Bay of Bengal, which is expected to influence weather across Bihar for the next 24 to 48 hours. Intermittent showers are also anticipated during the ongoing Navratri festival.
Meteorologists predict fluctuating weather in the coming days. South and central Bihar are likely to experience intermittent rain, while northern districts may see mostly cloudy skies with minimal precipitation. Temperatures are expected to rise slightly, with maximums potentially increasing by 2–3°C, heightening humidity.
Patna is forecast to experience cloudy skies and moderate to heavy rainfall in some areas today, accompanied by strong winds. Daytime temperatures are expected to reach 33–34°C, with nighttime lows around 25–26°C.
