Patna: The Bihar government has announced that Aadhaar cards for children will now be issued directly from government schools, aiming to simplify the process for families whose children have not yet been enrolled. Two ‘Aadhaar Seva Kendras’ will be set up in each block of the state.
In the first phase, 1,068 schools have been selected for the programme, based on their facilities, including electricity and available rooms. An official from the Education Department said the necessary preparations have begun, including issuing a tender to select an agency to operate the centres.
Once the agency is selected, the Aadhaar centres are expected to be operational within 60 days, in collaboration with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). The Education Department will pay the agency Rs 50 for each Aadhaar card processed. Agency staff will also receive training from UIDAI, and the agency will be responsible for managing the centres and providing all necessary infrastructure.
The centres will not only serve children but will also be open to the general public for new enrolments and corrections to existing Aadhaar cards.
