Patna: The Bihar government is set to introduce 150 electric buses across the state with operations expected to begin by the end of August, as part of a broader push to modernise public transport and reduce vehicular emissions.
Of the 150 buses, 80 will be deployed in the capital Patna, serving routes such as Bailey Road, Danapur, Patna City, Phulwari AIIMS, Bihta, Maner and Digha. An additional 30 buses are expected to operate across over 10 blocks in Patna district, including Masaurhi, Naubatpur and Paliganj.
According to media reports, the central government will hand over the fleet to the Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) later this summer. Ahead of the rollout, preparations for charging infrastructure are underway. Charging stations are being developed in major cities including Patna, Gaya, Purnia, Bhagalpur and Muzaffarpur. Two large-capacity hubs – Phulwarisharif Transport Complex and Bairia Bus Terminal in Patna – will each be capable of charging up to 30 buses simultaneously.
Officials from the state transport department have indicated that 10 to 15 buses will be assigned per route. The services are expected to run until 9pm daily and will be monitored in real-time from a central control and command centre at the BSRTC headquarters, allowing for quick response in case of operational issues or emergencies.
