Patna: Rakshabandhan was celebrated with great enthusiasm across Bihar, bringing together family, friends, and the public in colourful gatherings. In Patna, popular teacher Khan Sir organised a huge event at the Sri Krishna Memorial Hall, where around 15,000 girls tied Rakhis to him. A disabled student also tied a Rakhi on stage and sang a song, moving the audience. Khan Sir arranged 156 types of food for the occasion, including 500 pizzas and 20,000 panipuris. The crowd’s excitement was so high that the programme had to be stopped for a few minutes when hundreds of girls rushed to the stage.
RJD leader Tej Pratap Yadav celebrated the festival with his cousin Dr Pinky, sharing photos online. He also posted screenshots of his video calls with his sisters Hema, Ragini, Chanda, and Anushka. His sister Rohini Acharya shared a heartfelt Rakhi message on social media along with a photo of her video call with Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, which led to playful questions about Tej Pratap’s absence.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar celebrated with his sisters and son Nishant, and even tied a Rakhi to a tree at Eco Park. He personally served salty snacks to journalists and announced free travel for women in government buses on 9 and 10 August.
Tejashwi Yadav mixed the festive spirit with politics, asking the “sisters of Bihar” to tie him a Rakhi and give him their vote in the upcoming elections. He promised to protect them from unemployment, inflation, crime, poverty, and corruption, calling himself a “protective shield” for the people.
