Patna: The southwest monsoon remained active across Bihar over the past 24 hours, bringing widespread rainfall and a noticeable drop in temperatures across several districts. The spell of rain provided relief from the recent humid weather, while the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more heavy rainfall for Monday, July 13.
According to the Patna Meteorological Centre, an Orange Alert has been issued for large parts of the state, with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds expected to accompany the rain.
Orange Alert For Heavy Rain
The IMD has warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and winds of 30–40 kmph across several districts on Monday.
Authorities have advised residents to remain indoors during thunderstorms, avoid open fields and seek shelter in safe buildings when lightning occurs.
Seemanchal And Kosi Likely To Receive Heaviest Rain
The weather office said monsoon activity is expected to be most intense in the Seemanchal and Kosi regions.
Katihar and Kishanganj are likely to receive very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
Heavy rainfall has also been forecast for Araria, Madhepura, Purnia, Supaul and Saharsa.
In south-eastern Bihar, Banka and Bhagalpur are expected to receive heavy rain, while Jamui, Khagaria and Munger may experience rain along with gusty winds reaching 30–40 kmph.

Rain To Continue In Patna And Nearby Districts
The IMD has forecast continued monsoon activity over Patna and neighbouring districts.
Light to moderate rainfall is expected across Patna, Nalanda, Jehanabad, Nawada, Gaya, Lakhisarai, Sheikhpura, Begusarai and Samastipur, with heavy rain likely at isolated places.
In south-western Bihar, including Rohtas, Kaimur (Bhabua), Bhojpur, Buxar, Arwal and Aurangabad, isolated thunderstorms accompanied by rain are also expected.
Strong Winds Changed Weather In Patna
On Sunday, Siwan recorded heavy rainfall, while Patna experienced strong winds of up to 43 kmph, bringing a marked change in weather conditions.
The widespread rainfall helped lower temperatures and provided relief from the heat and humidity that had prevailed over the past several days.
Public Advisory
The IMD has urged people to remain alert during periods of heavy rain and lightning. Residents have been advised to avoid taking shelter under trees or near electric poles during thunderstorms and to monitor official weather updates before travelling.
With active monsoon conditions expected to persist, intermittent rain is likely to continue across much of Bihar over the coming days.
