Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar visited the residence of Union Minister and LJP (N) chief Chirag Paswan on Sunday evening to receive Kharna Prasad, sparking both political and festive interest in the city.
The brief visit, marked by a cheerful exchange, saw Kumar smilingly remark, “I have come to see you,” prompting laughter from Paswan and his family. The Chief Minister was welcomed with a traditional shawl and posed for photographs alongside Paswan’s relatives.

Chhath, one of the most revered festivals in Bihar, is being observed with devotion across the state, including at the Chief Minister’s official residence on Ek Aane Marg, where family members are undertaking the fast. Arrangements for offering Arghya – prayers to the setting and rising sun – have been made within the premises. While some family members, including Kumar’s niece and nephew, are observing the fast, his sister-in-law is not participating this year.
In a statement to the public, CM Nitish extended his greetings, describing Chhath as “a festival of self-discipline, where people offer Arghya to the Sun God with a pure conscience and a clean mind.” He prayed for the state’s progress, peace, and prosperity.
Amid the celebrations, the government has emphasised strict safety measures. Chief Secretary Pratyay Amrit instructed all district authorities to enforce a complete ban on firecrackers and carbide guns at festival ghats and to raise awareness about their dangers.
