Patna: Communist Party of India (CPI) has accused the government of carrying out killings of tribal people under the pretext of fighting Maoist insurgency, as party’s national genera secretary D Raja launched a broad attack on both security policies and the functioning of the election commission.
Speaking at a two-day party meeting in Patna, Raja alleged that so-called anti-Naxal operations were being used to justify violence against Adivasi communities. He claimed that fake encounters were being staged and that innocent tribals were being killed in the name of internal security.
“The government is committing atrocities against tribal people under the banner of combating Naxalism,” Raja said, calling for an immediate halt to what he described as systematic abuse.
Raja also accused the Election Commission of India of acting at the behest of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. He questioned why the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls had been conducted in 12 states but not in Assam, suggesting selective implementation driven by political considerations.
“This makes it clear that the election commission is functioning under the instructions of the central government,” he said, describing the constitutional body as a “puppet” of those in power.
The remarks came as the CPI announced the formation of its new 11-member state secretariat in Bihar, along with a 31-member state executive committee. Party leaders said the reorganisation was aimed at strengthening the party’s presence in the state and intensifying grassroots political struggles.
The party also announced that it would mark its centenary celebrations across Bihar on December 26. The meeting was addressed by several national leaders, including CPI national secretaries Girish Chandra Sharma, Ramakrishna Panda, and Annie Raja.
