Patna: Train services across parts of Bihar have been disrupted following non-interlocking (NI) work at Neura station in the Danapur railway division, with multiple cancellations, diversions and delays announced between April 18 and April 26.
The work, aimed at connecting the Neura–Jatdumri railway line, is part of ongoing infrastructure upgrades by Indian Railways.
Local Services Hit Hard
Railway officials said seven passenger and MEMU trains will remain cancelled on April 25 and 26, affecting key routes such as Patna–Sasaram, Patna–Ara and Patna–DDU (Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction).
These services are widely used by daily commuters, including wage workers and small traders, who may now need to rely on road transport.
Long-Distance Trains Diverted
Several long-distance trains have also been diverted. Services from cities such as New Delhi and Indore — including the New Delhi–Rajendra Nagar Special, Indore–Patna and Ajmer–Bhagalpur trains — will operate via alternate routes such as DDU–Gaya–Jehanabad.
Other trains, including Delhi–Kamakhya and Anand Vihar–Malda Town Express, have been rerouted through Gaya–Tilaiya–Kiul.
Officials said these changes may increase travel time, with delays ranging from 30 minutes to up to five hours in some cases.
Short-Termination And Rescheduling
To manage congestion, some trains have been short-terminated. The Jaynagar–Ara Express will now run only up to Danapur, while the Durg–Ara South Bihar Express will terminate at Rajendra Nagar.
Select passenger services will operate from Bihta station on April 26, and timings of several trains — including Danapur–Buxar and Buxar–Patna services — have been revised.
Partial Relief On Kiul–Gaya Section
In a separate development, the railways have lifted a permanent speed restriction on Bridge No. 40 between Sirari and Sheikhpura on the Kiul–Gaya section.
The earlier speed cap of 40 km/h has been removed, allowing faster train movement and reduced travel time on this stretch.
Officials said the ongoing works are expected to improve connectivity and operational efficiency in the long term, though passengers have been advised to check schedules before travel during the disruption period.
