Patna: The Janata Dal (United) has raised concerns over the funding sources of Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraj Party, alleging a lack of transparency in its financial dealings. JD(U) chief spokesperson Neeraj Kumar, in a press conference at the party office, claimed that while five questions were posed regarding the party’s registration, funding, and transparency, only one has been answered. He accused Kishor of engaging in “corporate funding games” and remarked that the political strategist-turned- leader has now become “Ashant Kishor” (restless Kishor).
Neeraj alleged that three key individuals—Sharad Kumar Mishra, Vijay Shahu, and Ajit Singh—are central figures in Jan Suraj, yet their official documents list a Delhi-based address instead of the party’s name. He questioned why Jan Suraj is not formally registered as a political entity in the Election Commission’s records and accused the party of operating under the guise of a non-governmental organization (NGO) through the Joy of Living Global Foundation. According to him, this is an attempt to circumvent political funding regulations.
He further claimed that Jan Suraj’s Young Leader Program, which offers jobs to youth, is linked to the NGO. Neeraj pointed out that the directorship of Joy of Living Global Foundation has changed multiple times, with party president Sharad Kumar Mishra currently serving as a director. He also alleged that Ram Setu Infrastructure donated funds to the NGO despite its declared assets being only Rs 6 crore, while the donation itself amounted to Rs 14 crore—suggesting financial irregularities.
JD(U) also questioned how companies with minimal assets—some as low as Rs 1 lakh—were making donations worth crores to the foundation. Neeraj particularly flagged concerns over companies in Telangana making repeated high-value donations despite reporting low incomes. He demanded an explanation from Kishor and accused him of violating the Companies Act by using an NGO to channel funds for political purposes.
JD(U) has called for greater scrutiny of Jan Suraj’s financial dealings and has urged the Election Commission to investigate the matter.
