Patna: The upcoming film Jolly LLB 3 has become the subject of a legal dispute after an advocate from Patna filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in the Patna High Court demanding a ban on the movie, its songs, and promotional content.
Neeraj Kumar, the petitioner and a practising lawyer, argued that the film portrays the judiciary and the legal profession in a “derogatory, contemptuous and defamatory” manner, damaging the dignity of lawyers and eroding public trust in the judicial system.
He pointed in particular to the recently released song Mera Bhai Vakeel and the film’s trailer, claiming they mock the legal profession and present lawyers as objects of ridicule. “Such content not only diminishes the reputation of advocates, but also undermines the image of the judiciary among ordinary citizens,” the petition stated.
The PIL has sought an immediate ban on the disputed song and trailer, directing the filmmakers to edit or alter content only after approval from the Bar Council of India and the Bihar State Bar Council. It also urged the court to issue strict guidelines to prevent derogatory depictions of lawyers and judicial proceedings in future films.
The petition further demands a public apology from the production house. The respondents named in the case include the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Central Board of Film Certification, the Bar Council of India, the Bihar State Bar Council, and the producers Star Studios and Kangra Talkies.
