Patna: Municipal Commissioner Yashpal Meena on Tuesday conducted a surprise inspection of cleaning operations at the Rajiv Nagar and Bypass drains, while also reviewing the progress of water supply projects underway in Wards 26 and 27.
The inspection comes as the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) continues its second-phase “mop-up” drive following the completion of desilting work across all municipal zones. According to PMC officials, the campaign focuses on the regular cleaning of drains, manholes and catchpits ahead of the monsoon.
PMC said directives have been issued to deploy up to 20 additional labourers in each ward to strengthen cleaning operations. Officials added that the work is being monitored regularly at the headquarters level.
Focus On Rajiv Nagar And Bypass Drains
During the inspection of the Rajiv Nagar drain, which is currently under construction, the Municipal Commissioner instructed officials to use Poclain machines for cleaning work.
He also directed that cleaning operations be carried out in coordination with the Electricity Division to avoid disruptions caused by electrical wires located near the drain.
At the Bypass drain site, Meena instructed engineers of the Patna Metro Rail Corporation to complete pending work in the area by May 31.
According to PMC, the deadline is intended to facilitate intensive cleaning in sections where work had been delayed because of ongoing Metro construction activities.
Review Of Water Supply Infrastructure
The Municipal Commissioner also inspected the pump house under construction near the Kali Temple at Bans Ghat.
In addition, he reviewed 12 ongoing pipeline-related projects in Wards 26 and 27. During the site visits, officials were directed to ensure that all projects are completed within the stipulated timelines.
PMC officials said the inspections are part of ongoing efforts to improve civic infrastructure and maintain drainage systems before the onset of heavy rainfall.
