Rajgir: Nalanda University’s SPIC MACAY chapter hosted a captivating flute recital by renowned Indian classical musician and Padma Shri awardee, Pandit Ronu Majumdar, to inaugurate the new academic session of 2025-27 and welcome its new students. The event, held at the Sushma Swaraj Auditorium, brought together students from over 25 countries for a culturally enriching evening.
Majumdar, a top-grade artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan, opened his performance with an evening raga, building from a gentle alap into a series of intricate improvisations. He was accompanied on the tabla by Pandit Lalit Kumar, a distinguished artist of the Banaras Gharana, and by his senior disciple, Shri Kalpesh Maneklal Sachala, on the flute.

Welcoming the new cohort, Vice Chancellor Professor Sachin Chaturvedi highlighted the university’s enduring legacy. “As you begin your journey of learning at Nalanda, you become part of a timeless legacy rooted in a global vision,” he stated. “May your time here be marked by intellectual discovery, pluralistic thought, and a deepening of both inner and outer understanding.”
The event was organized by the university’s local chapter of SPIC MACAY (Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth), a non-profit organization founded at IIT Delhi in 1977 by Padma Shri Professor Kiran Seth. The organization works to promote awareness of India’s rich cultural heritage among young people.

By hosting such cultural events, Nalanda University continues to uphold its commitment to providing a holistic education that not only fosters academic achievement but also instills values, cultural sensitivity, and global awareness in its future leaders.
