Patna: A colourful celebration of democracy was seen at B.D. College in Patna on Monday when the SVEEP program, organised by the National Service Scheme (NSS) and National Cadet Corps (NCC), encouraged students to understand the value of their vote. The event was held under the guidance of Principal Professor Ratna Amrit and featured actress and SVEEP icon Neetu Chandra as the special guest. The purpose of the program was to raise awareness among young and first-time voters ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections.
Addressing the students, Neetu Chandra spoke with great passion about the importance of youth participation in the democratic process. “Bihar is the youngest state. I am visiting various colleges to educate young people, especially first-time voters, about the importance of their right to vote. This time, there is a special enthusiasm among the youth to vote,” she said. Her message encouraged students to take pride in their responsibility as citizens and to contribute towards a stronger democracy.
Chandra, who hails from Bihar herself, said it was her moral duty to motivate young people in her home state. “I am a daughter of Bihar, so it is my primary duty to raise awareness among the people here. When youth rise, democracy is strengthened,” she said, receiving loud applause from the crowd. Her words reminded everyone that real change begins with participation and awareness.
The most inspiring part of the event came when Principal Professor Ratna Amrit and Neetu Chandra jointly flagged off an awareness rally. NSS and NCC students marched through the nearby areas holding banners and placards with slogans encouraging people to vote. The rally spread a powerful message about the strength of democracy and the responsibility that comes with the right to vote. Local residents watched with interest as the young participants shouted slogans promoting civic duty and unity.
Neetu Chandra also highlighted a serious concern — Patna’s low voter turnout in previous elections. “It’s unfortunate that our capital city has lagged behind in voting numbers. But this time, wherever I go, people are promising that voter turnout will be higher than before,” she said. Her optimism reflected the growing awareness among citizens and the changing attitude of Bihar’s youth towards elections.
The students of B.D. College showed great enthusiasm and pledged to cast their votes on November 6, when polling will be held in 121 constituencies, including Patna. The event ended with a message of hope and responsibility. Principal Professor Ratna Amrit said, “Educating youth is the key to strengthening democracy. B.D. College has always been at the forefront of such awareness programs.” Her words perfectly summed up the spirit of the day — that democracy thrives when its young citizens participate with full commitment and pride.
