Patna: Electric vehicle sales are rising rapidly in Patna as consumers respond to increasing petrol and diesel prices, lower operating costs and growing awareness around cleaner transport options.
Dealerships across the city said demand for both electric cars and scooters has increased significantly in recent months. Industry representatives estimate that around 40 to 50 electric four-wheelers and 60 to 70 electric two-wheelers are being sold daily in the state capital.
Several showrooms are currently facing waiting lists of 80 to 100 vehicles due to high demand and limited stock availability.
Growing Interest Across Consumer Groups
Dealers said young buyers, working professionals and women are among the key customer groups driving the surge in demand.
The shift has also been influenced by public campaigns promoting electric mobility and fuel conservation, including appeals by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles.
According to dealers, rising fuel costs and comparatively lower maintenance expenses are prompting more consumers to consider EVs as a long-term alternative.
Long-Range Vehicles In High Demand
Market representatives said buyers are showing greater interest in vehicles offering longer battery range and fast-charging capability.
Sandeep Saras, associated with Mahindra’s EV segment, said the company’s electric cars are priced between Rs 16 lakh and Rs 32 lakh. He said some models offer a driving range of nearly 600 kilometres on a single charge.
He added that high-speed charging systems can fully charge certain models within 40 to 80 minutes. Saras said dealerships are receiving 10 to 15 serious customer enquiries every day, while several bookings remain pending due to supply constraints.
Ashok Priyadarshi of Alankar Motors said demand for Maruti Suzuki’s electric models has also increased. He said the company’s 61 kW battery variant offers a range of around 540 kilometres, while the 49 kW version delivers nearly 450 kilometres on a full charge.
Scooter Sales Also Climb
Dealers said the rise in demand is not limited to cars, with electric scooter sales also recording strong growth.
Amarjeet Singh, associated with TVS Motors, said that while dealerships earlier sold only one or two electric scooters per day, daily sales have now increased substantially.
He said available stock is being sold quickly and that existing inventory could be exhausted within two to three days if supply remains limited.
Dealers believe growing awareness about long-term savings and reduced fuel dependence will continue to support the expansion of the EV market in Patna in the coming months.
