Patna: Two young advocates practising at the Patna High Court were detained on charges of being under the influence of alcohol while appearing for students before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) in Chhajjubagh, police said.
The advocates, identified as Akash Keshav and Varti Kumar, were detained at the judges’ residence complex under the jurisdiction of Kotwali police station.
Kotwali Station House Officer (SHO) Ajay Kumar confirmed the incident. The two advocates are currently being held at the Kotwali police station, according to police.
Advocates Appeared For Detained Students
The advocates had arrived at the CJM’s residence to represent students detained following a violent clash during a student protest on Saturday.
According to the information available, some of the detained students were released on personal recognisance (PR) bonds, while those accused of involvement in violent activities were remanded to judicial custody.
Alcohol Test Conducted During Proceedings
During the proceedings, an odour of alcohol was reportedly detected from the advocates while they were making their arguments before the CJM.
Following the court’s direction, both advocates underwent an alcohol test. Police said they were taken into custody after the test indicated alcohol consumption.
FIR Registered
An FIR has been registered against both advocates at Kotwali police station, according to police.
The case includes provisions under Bihar’s prohibition law and allegations of obstructing official duty. Police said further legal action is underway.
