Patna: A 30-year-old man was found dead in a hotel room in Patna early on Tuesday, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances of his death.
The deceased, identified as Santosh Sharma from Shakurabad in Jehanabad district, had been staying at a room in the Rudra Hotel with a woman, police said.
Woman Detained, Family Alleges Foul Play
Family members of the deceased have alleged that the woman, identified as Chanchal Kumari, also known as Riya, was involved in his death. Police have taken her into custody for questioning.
Officials said the two were known to each other and had checked into the hotel together.
Incident Reported Early Morning
According to the woman’s statement to police, Sharma appeared normal until late at night but suddenly lost consciousness in the early hours. She said she attempted to revive him before informing hotel staff at around 4am.
The hotel management subsequently alerted the police.
No Visible Injuries Found
Police said no external injury marks or signs of a struggle were found on the body during the initial examination. However, certain medicines were recovered from the room.
The body has been sent for postmortem to determine the exact cause of death.
CCTV Footage And Records Under Review
Investigators are examining CCTV footage and the hotel’s guest register as part of the inquiry.
Deputy superintendent of police Ranjan Kumar said all possible angles, including natural causes and foul play, are being investigated.
Officials said further action will depend on the findings of the postmortem report and ongoing investigation.
