Patna: The extension of Corridor-2 of the Patna Metro is nearing completion, with services expected to be operational up to Malahi Pakri by the end of April, subject to final safety clearances.
The 2.75-kilometre elevated stretch beyond Bhutnath has been largely completed, and trial runs on the route have been successful. However, inspections by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) and the fire department are still pending before commercial operations can begin.
Officials said metro services are expected to run between the Patliputra Bus Terminal and Malahi Pakri once the required approvals are secured, with the final clearance anticipated within days.
Despite the extension, trains will not halt at Khemnichak station initially. The station is being developed as a major interchange point where two metro corridors will intersect, and ongoing construction has made it operationally unfeasible for now. As a result, trains will run directly from Bhutnath to Malahi Pakri, reducing travel time along the route.
Beyond the elevated section, tunnelling work beneath central Patna is also progressing rapidly. Authorities have set a target to complete the 6-kilometre underground stretch between Moin-ul-Haq Stadium and Patna Junction within April.
Construction activity is also advancing on the Danapur–Patliputra stretch, part of the larger metro network aimed at improving urban mobility in the state capital.
With an estimated project cost of around Rs 13,365 crore, the Patna Metro is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion and transform public transport infrastructure in the city.
