Patna: Patna Metro has tightened security measures following the recent bomb blast in Delhi, with passengers undergoing thorough anti-sabotage checks before entering stations. Border Security Force (BSF) personnel are monitoring every visitor, while dog squads patrol the premises to ensure commuter safety, Patna Metro Rail Corporation (PMRC) officials said. Extensive security screenings are currently being conducted across all operational stations, which see a daily ridership of 3,000 to 3,500 passengers.
At present, the Metro operates at three stations: Bhootnath, Zeromile, and Patliputra Bus Terminal. From next month, services are set to expand by approximately 2 km, extending operations beyond the bypass to Kankarbagh. Construction at the Khemnichak interchange station, situated between Malahi Pakadi and Bhootnath, is ongoing and progressing slowly due to its complexity, with the joint nearly complete.
Meanwhile, tunnel construction from Moinul Haque Stadium to PMCH via Patna University is expected to finish by the end of November. From next month, the tunnel boring machine (TBM) will advance towards Gandhi Maidan. A 2,302-metre tunnel is planned from Patna University to Gandhi Maidan via PMCH. Simultaneously, work is underway on the tunnel from Gandhi Maidan to Patna Junction via Akashvani. Construction of the 1.5 km stretch between Moinul Haque Stadium and Patna University has already been completed. Once operational, the Patna Metro will cover a total distance of 32.5 km across the city.
