Patna: Patna Women’s College organised a two-day orientation programme on September 12 and 13 aimed at guiding students in preparing for competitive examinations in the field of life sciences. The sessions, hosted at B. J. Sullivan Hall under the college’s Competitive Examination and Guidance Cell (DISHA), saw active participation from students of biotechnology, botany, microbiology, and zoology.
On the first day, students of PG Semester III and UG Semester V attended. The sessions began with Rajeev Ranjan, assistant professor in zoology, who introduced national-level postgraduate competitive exams with a focus on CSIR-NET Life Sciences. This was followed by Niti Yashvardhini, assistant professor in microbiology, who discussed undergraduate-level examinations such as GATE, CUET, and IIT-JAM. The day concluded with microbiology faculty member Swetnisha, who explained the syllabi of various competitive exams, highlighting overlapping portions that could help students streamline their preparation.
The second day brought in PG Semester I and UG Semesters I and III students. Moderated by Nupur Sinha, head of the psychology department, the sessions expanded on exam patterns, syllabus overlaps, and strategies to prepare for higher education opportunities in life sciences.
Over 100 students participated on each day, engaging actively in discussions. The programme was described as highly informative and interactive, motivating students to pursue academic and research goals with a clearer understanding of career pathways through competitive examinations.
